What is your job role?

I am the Events & Funding Officer and take a lead on both internal and external funding. I also manage the units Get in 2 sport programme.

As part of my funding role I assist local groups and clubs in applying for small funding streams e.g Awards for All, Sport England small grants and bring money into the town. For our unit I work alongside colleagues and strategic partners to access larger funding streams for projects and job roles.

I also oversee events such as the annual Burnley Community Sports Awards which recognises and rewards local people who make a contribution to grassroots sports. Alongside this I organise National Play Day which is a yearly event to celebrate every childs right to play, as well as overseeing other local park events.

How long have you worked for Sport & Play Development?

I have worked for the unit for 10 years and have held a number of roles : play worker, sports coach and Play Development worker before moving into my current role.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Encouraging and creating more opportunities for local people to become involved in sport and physical activity. I enjoy making a difference to local groups and clubs by assisting them to access funding.

What hobbies do you have outside of work?

I am a Burnley FC supporter and enjoy following the team both home and away. I also enjoy keeping fit through running, cycling and playing football. I also play rounder’s in the local league. I enjoy travelling and seeing different cultures and I go to the Glastonbury festival every year.

One interesting fact about you!

I completed the London Marathon in 2015 raising over £3000 for Pancreatic Cancer UK. Before starting to train for the marathon my furthest race had been 10k !
