Mechanics Embraces Trend of Smaller Performances
This is an exciting season at the Mechanics as we release The Front Room programme of events; a smaller, more intimate performance space presenting niche and up and coming acts.
Commencing in February with a one man stage show, Burton, presents the life of the great Welsh actor, Richard Burton in his own words, from humble beginnings to Hollywood mega stardom. Hot jazz swingsters, The After Hours Quintet will breathe life into an otherwise forgotten era with washboard fidgeting, banjo rolling and horn howling! Chilled Latino vibes and the aroma of tapas will fill the Front Room when Fiesta Latina take to the stage with their intense, heart warming beat in March for this relaxed food and music event. Acoustic folk’s finest songwriter, Steve Tilston will present an intimate natured concert of classy, thoughtful songs, mixed with some light hearted chat. Simon Yates will be talking about his mountain experiences with climbing partner Joe Simpson and the accident that lead to both of them becoming household names through the book and resulting film, ‘Touching the Void’. Edinburgh Fringe’s favourite housewife, Barbara Nice brings a hilarious comedy show about chance and luck that will put a smile on your face and a spring in your step and an ex-brickie and a Cambridge scholar team up in the unusual musical due, Opera Dudes, a show that makes opera more accesible by combining music with impersinations and humour. Seven-piece tribute band Pinked Floyd will fill the small space with their big sound and fabulous light show in an engagaing and energetic performance that will bring the Front Room season to a close in June.
All these shows are priced under £15 and most of them are just £8, so this is a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and try something new, we promise you won’t be disapointed!
