Weekly timed run in beautiful Towneley Park
Burnley parkrun is a timed 5km run every Saturday morning at 9.00am in Towneley Park. Organised by volunteers it is free to take part, however you must register online first by going to the parkrun website.
We brought parkrun to Burnley in 2012; setting out the route and establishing a small team of volunteers. Since then, thanks to those volunteers it has gone from strength to strength with over 300 runners taking part regularly!
Junior parkrun was launched in the summer of 2016 in partnership with Burnley Athletic Club. It is held every Sunday morning in Towneley Park at 9.00am and is a 2k run for juniors only (4-14 year olds). This weekly event has taken off very quickly also, with over 70 children taking part each week.
Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
The events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings encouraging people of every ability to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; parkrun welcomes you all.
Burnley parkrun and junior parkrun happen because of fantastic volunteers, who are almost all regular runners. The weekly team of volunteers are led by a small group of parkrun enthusiasts who form the ‘core team’: They make sure the event is set up and packed away each week, the results published, the tokens resorted, event reports written and so much more.We are very grateful to the help provided by everybody, both now and in the past, who’ve helped make Burnley parkrun happen.
